What brought Craig to the Art League?

A working portrait painter and longtime ALJ teacher. Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Craig has been on our teaching roster since 2014 — 12 years now — working out of our Murray Hill studio.

How would you describe their practice?

Craig's work centers on oil painting and the patient material study it asks for. As Craig puts it: "Color temperature does most of the work. The student just has to learn to see it."

What can students expect in the classroom?

Craig runs a working studio more than a lecture. Sessions open with a short demonstration, then dedicated practice time with one-on-one feedback, and close with a brief, generous group critique. No experience is required; returning students pick up where they left off.
